International Vision Expo West. Let me try to describe it. Imagine this….Over 5000 brands from 400 companies and 5 football fields of exhibit space. Over 12,000 eye care professionals and 320 hours of CE offered. Expo is a passion of mine that I have been attending for 14 years since opening Lifetime Vision. My focus this year was ocular disease. Having an extreme interest in Dry Eye Disease I sought out every class and high tech gizmo that could enhance our growing Dry Eye Center.
Education and Innovation
The latest gadget is a new photo imaging system that captures what a camera sees in the back of the eye with -get this, an iphone 6s camera! Yup, the iphone 6 camera technology is that good. With 12 megapixels it takes amazing crisp, clear, detailed pictures with background illumination using blue tooth technology (eliminates messy cords). If someone has piece of metal or dry eye we can insert dye and show the patient what is happening with a bright vivid picture.
Next was a method of developing better tears using a disposable neuro stimulator. It’s like a Y shaped nasal probe that gives a stimulus which produces good quality tears for 4-6 hours. Allergan is the innovator for this technology. (It’s akin to pulling a nose hair- ouch, which makes you tear up). Wow. Extremely innovative and also passed FDA trials and will be available soon. Bottom line, better tears is the name of the game in treating MGD (meibomian gland dysfunction) associated with chronic Dry Eye Disease.
Finally, we always love updating our frame selection and added some awesome frames from Etnia Barcelona and Tom Ford that will be here soon. We love bringing the latest fashion frames back to Grand Forks, beyond what big box retailers offer.
Not everything in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
