Dry Eye Disease Diagnosis and Treatment

The Best Place for Your Tears is Right Here

Dry eyes can make your life miserable. For some people, they’re the result of temporary issues like seasonal allergies or environmental conditions in their homes. But for others, the gritty, painful, always-dehydrated feeling is an all-day-every-day way of life.

If that describes your eyes, you might have dry eye disease or chronic dry eye syndrome. Other symptoms can include feeling like there’s something in your eye, redness, blurred vision, and sensitivity to light or wind.

The good news is we can help.

Dr. Jeff Yunker founded the Grand Forks region’s first certified Dry Eye Clinic within Lifetime Vision in 2015, and is the only one in the area. Our clinic is certified by the Food and Drug Administration under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). It also is a Tearlab-acredited dry eye clinic.

Jeff leads a team of optometrists that uses the most advanced technologies and equipment to detect and diagnose dry eye disease. We’ll analyze, assess and treat your dry eye based on science, not guesswork. To put it another way, your tear layer will improve and your eyes will feel healthy again.

What Is Dry Eye Disease?

Tears are made up of three layers

If you’re like many people with dry eye symptoms, your condition is related to blocked Meibomian glands and an inadequate protective layer of oils in your tears.

Lipiflow Patented Dry Eye Treatment

We will customize your dry eye treatment based on scientific diagnostic test results. Your plan could incorporate up to 16 different treatment modalities, including anti-inflammatory drugs, drops, supplements, moist heat and LipiFlow®   (www.dryeyeandmgd.com) patented technology.

LipiFlow is a procedure designed to treat blocked Meibomian glands (www.dryeyeandmgd.com). It works by applying directed energy to the eyelid near the affected glands, with precisely targeted warmth from the back of the eyelid and slight pressure from the front. This treatment, performed right in our office, can unblock glands, interrupt physical deterioration and, in most cases, provide symptom relief.
